Halifax Derby

DESCRIPTION

Grade II listed building built in two stages (1912 and 1938) in the Arts and Crafts style. The building required extensive repairs due to incorrect decoration and general wear and tear.

AWARD WINNING REFURBISHMENT IN DERBY

T&D was appointed by Mitie for Lloyds Bank in 2015 to undertake the full refurbishment of a decorative building exterior in Derby.

Being a Grade II listed building, the restoration necessitated that any works undertaken match the existing finishes as closely as possible, requiring all of our knowledge and expertise in renovations to achieve the desired results.

Following an initial consultation with Derby City Council’s planning team, samples of lime render and paint finishes were sent for laboratory analysis so they could be matched. Extensive planning and surveying prior to commencement ensured that no aspect of the restoration was overlooked.

Craftsmen were commissioned to repeat the hand carvings to the gallow brackets at eaves level (see adjacent photos) with skilled joinery applied to repair the Doric style window mullions and cills.

Skilled plasterers undertook repairs to the pargeting to prepare the building exterior for re-decoration. Replaced glazing also required craftsmen to repair the metal casement windows, with new lead work and minor roof repairs.

The extensive repairs undertaken by T&D led to a stunning renovation, restoring the architecture and artwork to their original splendour.

The work of the T&D and MITIE teams was recognised by being highly commended at the George Rennie awards.
