DESCRIPTION

Removing an existing external staircase and replacing with new.

Having had the existing staircase condemned by a fire safety officer, T&D was employed to oversee the project for the restoration/replacement of the external staircase.

Our structural engineers were sent to site to survey the existing staircase and ascertain what repairs would be required. Once the report had been completed, costings were provided for the options of either repairing or replacing the staircase.

Once the decision was made to replace the staircase, T&D supplied drawings and calculations. Following approval for building regulations and the client’s confirmation of designs, the project was underway.

As the staircase was fabricated off site, the T&D team worked to remove the existing foundations and complete all preparation works. Once completed and signed off, T&D set up site. This included spider cranes, forklifts, and a full TG20:13 compliant scaffold.

Due to the tight location and limited access, the timescale of the project was crucial. And within two weeks the team had removed the existing staircase, disposed of the steel off site, and installed the new staircase. A week later, the staircase was verified as being compliant with all building regulations and was in use.
