St Albans - Eco-Fin Roof System & Skylight Edge Protection

Overview

T&D Design & Build were appointed to upgrade the waterproofing performance and safety compliance of a flat roof area at a commercial site in St Albans. The existing roof surface had reached the end of its serviceable life and required a durable liquid-applied system. In addition,the skylight presented a fall risk, and the client required a permanent,non-penetrative edge protection solution to ensure safe ongoing access formaintenance staff.

The project was delivered efficiently with minimaldisruption to building users, leaving the client with a fully refurbished,watertight roof and a compliant edge protection arrangement.

Scope of Works

The works package included:

• Preparation and cleaning of the existing flat roof surface
• Installation of the Eco-Fin liquid waterproofing system, providing a seamless, fully bonded finish
• Treatment and reinforcing of all joints, laps, and transitions to ensure long-term protection
• Installation of a permanent, free-standing edge protection system around the skylight to eliminate fall hazards
• Final quality checks and client walkthrough on completion

Challenges & Solutions

The roof space included multiple plant units and restrictedworking zones. Careful planning and sequencing ensured all works were completedsafely without interfering with the site’s operational equipment. The skylightrequired precise positioning of the edge protection to maintain compliancewhile avoiding penetrations into the roof surface. The team selected aweighted, modular system to avoid damage to the newly coated roof, ensuringdurability and full compatibility with the Eco-Fin system.

The completed works have provided the client with:
